Self-heal, also known as Prunella vulgaris or kalyuth in 
Kashmir, is a perennial herb that grows in Kashmir and is used as an herbal remedy. 
What is self-heal used for?

    Native groups like the Algonquin, Delaware, Iroquois, and Mohican used self-heal as a febrifuge, usually in liquid form 
  • Throat remedy
    Self-heal has a long history of use as an herbal remedy for throat ailments 
  • Muscle pain relief
    In Kashmir, self-heal is boiled in water and used to bathe in to relieve muscle pain 
  • Herbal tea
    The dried leaves of self-heal plants are often used to make herbal tea 
Where does self-heal grow? 
  • Self-heal is native to Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America
  • It grows on roadsides, gardens, waste-places, and woodland edges
  • It usually grows in basic and neutral soils
Side effects of self-heal 
  • When taken by mouth, self-heal can cause allergic reactions, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • When applied to the skin, self-heal can cause allergic reactions
